Artistic Sashimi in Katsuura

One of the best Japanese-style restaurants that I have been to since I have been living in Japan is Sawa, in Katsuura, ChibaOne of Japan's 47 prefectures. Located just East of Tokyo and home to such well known sites as Narita International Airport and Tokyo Disney Land. Prefecture. Again, one of my students owns and runs this gorgeous little SashimiFresh, raw seafood sliced into bite-sized pieces and served with soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. restaurant. Shingo puts a lot of effort into creating fresh, mouth watering Sashimi, TempuraDeep fried seafood and vegetables that have been dipped in batter made from water, flour, and eggs. and a range of local speciality dishes that will leave you wanting to go back again and again. One of my favourites is the Miso SoupA traditional Japanese soup made by disolving fermented soybean paste (miso) in soup stock. There are many optional ingredients such as seaweed, tofu, onions, mushrooms, and potatoes. and the Whole Marinated Snapper.

Believing Sashimi preparation is a form of art, Shingo often travels the world to mysterious destinations such as the Louvre and the Moulin Rouge in search of artistic inspiration. If you ever get a chance to speak to him, ask him about his recent encounter with a 10man bill at an exclusive French ladies club. He will insist that whilst on one of his artistic inspiration soul quests he was wrongly misquoted which led to an uncomfortable and rather expensive night out! Also a keen surfer who speaks reasonable English, I highly recommend that when you go to Sawa you make an effort to have a chat to Shingo. And for the girls, he is also quite nice on the eye!

Sawa is also somewhat popular, so if you are thinking of heading there on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch, I suggest that you phone ahead and book just to be sure. Located in the sleepy fishing village of Katsuura, along the Pacific Ocean in the south of Chiba prefecture, I advise that you take your time when you come to this area, enjoy the ocean side and the lovely residents, take a stroll along the beach and breathe in the great lifestyle that is Chiba prefecture’s Pacific Ocean. There are a string of lovely hotels and RyokanTraditional Japanese bed and breakfast style inn. at reasonable prices, and being situated about 2 hours from Tokyo, your visit to Katusuura can either be made a day trip or a lovely weekend getaway.
